YouTube has significantly expanded its AI-powered auto-dubbing feature to "hundreds of thousands of channels" within its Partner Program, focusing on knowledge and information content. This innovative tool, which started testing with a small group of creators in June 2023, aims to bridge language barriers and make videos more accessible to a global audience.

According to a YouTube blog post, "Thanks to YouTube’s new auto-dubbing feature, it’s now easier to connect with creators and content from all over the world even if you don't speak the language. Whether you want to learn to cook authentic gratin from a French chef, sew traditional clothes from an Indian seamstress, or scout spooky spots to visit in another country, auto-dubbing makes that content more accessible."

If we talk about the auto-dubbing features, for English-language videos, the dub is available in French, German, Hindi, Italian, Spanish, Indonesian, Japanese and Portuguese. Conversely, videos created in one of these languages will only be received in English dubs.

While the current AI-generated dubs may lack a natural tone, YouTube promises noteworthy enhancements in future updates. Now, let's see how it works:

Upload Your Video

You don't have to do anything special. YouTube will automatically detect the language of your video and create a dubbed version in another language.

Watch Your Dubbed Video

You may view your dubbed videos in YouTube Studio's "Languages" section. Listen to the dubs and determine whether you're satisfied with them. If not, don't worry! You can unpublish or delete any dubs you dislike.

Not sure if you have it? Head over to YouTube Studio

This is where you can manage anything YouTube-related. If it is available for your channel, you may locate it in "Advanced Settings." You can always opt to review the dubs before releasing.

YouTube recognises the limitations of the technology and writes, "Now, it's important to remember that this technology is still pretty new, and it won't always be perfect. We're working hard to make it as accurate as possible, but there might be times when the translation isn't quite right or the dubbed voice doesn’t accurately represent the original speaker. We really appreciate your patience and feedback as we continue to improve."
